Dental Filling Options

Thanks to advances in modern dental materials and techniques, dentists have more ways to create pleasing, natural-looking smiles. Dental researchers are continuing their often decades-long work developing materials, such as ceramics and polymer compounds that look more like natural teeth. As a result, dentists and patients today have several choices when it comes to selecting materials to repair missing, worn, damaged or decayed teeth.

SEVEN THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT SILVER FILLINGS

1. Silver fillings contain mercury which is a potent poison and it is constantly released in the mouth especially while sleeping during clenching and grinding. While all dental fillings imbue toxicity, mercury based silver fillings are the most toxic restorative material used in traditional dentistry.
2. It is the vapors of mercury that cause the most damage to patients’ health. Mercury vapor gets bound up in the hard and soft tissues deep in the body and there is no known natural way to detox this poison from the body other than through chelation or mobilization. Mercury will cause degeneration of nerve cells and has been implicated in many different neurological conditions. Additionally mercury will form a heavy metal shield in the body preventing the immune function from working properly.
3. Silver fillings contain a number of other metals in the amalgam mix and these metals act as a battery in the mouth generating electric (galvanic) currents just six inches away from the brain.
4. Some dental patients suffer from mercury toxicity and will experience a metallic taste in their mouths.
5. Some patients with silver fillings will notice that the metal material will oxidize over time and become black in color.
6. Silver fillings containing mercury are not biocompatible and this material may block energy (chi) flow in the body.
7. There are healthier alternatives for filling teeth that are low in toxicity and biocompatible to living tissue.

Because of the danger from the poisonous vapors, Dr. Satloff and staff will always use a rubber dam as a protective drape to prevent mercury from falling into the back of the mouth and will use a mercury vapor suction with three filters to suck up all ambient poison vapors. Dr. David Satloff is an active member of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, the premiere medical-dental organization in the United States and abroad that deals with mercury and its toxicological ramifications.
